Alpaca Chute & Llama Chute |
 |

 |
Our alpaca chutes and llama chutes are extremely functional and well built chutes that are very safe for the alpaca or llama and breeder alike. There are many cheaper chutes available but the features of this chute are well worth the investment.
Our alpaca chute or llama chute allows you to work on your animal quickly and effectively. The hinged doors allow easy access to your animal while keeping you and your animal as safe as possible. Quick release head restraint and belly straps and padded neck restraints allow you to stabilize your alpaca/llama. Side panels open to allow access on both sides of the animal. Toe nail trimming can be done by one person now!
Vets love the alpaca chute and llama chute and have recommended it to their clients many times. Now instead of trying hold the bred females steady and catch a glimpse of the ultrasound screen while the vet checks pregnancies, you can be hands free and look at the screen along with the vet. And now my vet will let me look down the speculum at the cervix instead of trying to describe it while I restrain the female.
Our alpaca chute and llama chute's four point quick release head restraint facilitates head and mouth work. The quick release allows for extra safety precautions while working on your animals. The chutes include wheel kits which allow for easy mobility.
The chutes are available with or without a
scale. The scale is a great addition to the chute. Breeders can capture the weights while the animal is in the chute for other procedures. Knowing an animal’s weight is critical to proper dosing of medications and a good health check particularly on moms and crias.
Chutes come in two different sizes: alpaca and llama. The space in the alpaca chute for a scale is 22 ½” x 48” and accepts our stainless steel platform alpaca scale perfectly. The space in the llama chute for a scale is 22 1/2" x 59”. Our llama scale will fit with approx 1” on each side.
New Features:
We have made a change in the height of the ALPACA chute. We have increased the riser bars seven inches to make it easier for the user to enter into the chute with their animals. This increase will help the user not hit their head on the top of the chute while getting the animal in the chute. This will also allow breeders to use the alpaca chute for work on smaller llamas.
We have made the riser bars now 67” high, and the neck bars 71½” high.
Another change that we have made to the alpaca chute is to the d-ring bars. These are the lower bars that bolt on to the front of the chute. They are designed to hold the head restraint straps in the front of the chute. We have had suggestions to open this up more and create a free space for doing medical work such as blood draws from the neck. We have made d-ring plates (Pics to the left) that serve the same purpose as the d-ring bars. These also bolt into the same holes as the bar would. We do recommend that the users use one of the d-ring bars in the chute. This will help stabilize the chute.
The last change that we have made to the chute is the distance between the neck bars. We noticed that the distance between the two neck bars was narrow. Some larger alpacas had trouble stepping through the two bars. We have widened these two bars by two inches. This will help allow the larger alpacas to step through the front of the chute with greater ease.
The Chute's dimensions are:
Length
Width
Height
Alpaca
72” 27”
67”
Llama
96” 28”
72”
"I used my new chute yesterday to finish
shearing a llama that wouldn't cooperate. just so you know she fit in the chute fine just a little hang out the back but she went right
in and the straps and clips held her with out a problem even as she tried to lay down in protest."
Thanks for the great product.

Jay trimming teeth on an alpaca in the chute at Jay Mtn Alpacas
|
Hi Jay
I am so glad I got the alpaca chute put together yesterday. We did herd health this morning and what a difference. I was able to give injections exactly where they are meant to go without a struggle, and know for sure the whole dose was administered. I had new clients over, and because of the side doors, I could trim all four feet
and show the people how it is done safely. It was great to be able to get a close look at the incredible fleece they are carrying around, do body scores. It is going to save me a lot of headaches and worth every penny I spent for it.
By the way, the scale is perfectly accurate.
Thanks,
Cathy

The footprint of the alpaca chute is 2’x6’. A fully assembled alpaca chute is approx 6’ high The
disassembled chute is less than 18” high and easily transported in a pick up truck or even the back of most
mini-vans without the back seats.

Thanks so much for your email. We did receive the order and we are very pleased!
My husband made the statement that "the people who designed this chute actually use the chute". He has an aeronautical and astronautical engineering degree and is very much impressed with efficient and effective function- so thank you.
Thanks and have a great day!!

Product Tip
Recommended minimum area to use a chute is 10’ x 15’ clear area.
The chutes can be stored in a much smaller space and moved as needed for use.
Both the alpaca chute & llama chutes can be used for the other species
Alpacas can fit in the llama chute and llama can fit in the alpaca chute
The smallest alpacas (young juveniles) will fit in a llama chute but longer head strap restraints would be needed which we have available
The extremely large llama (400+ lbs) will have a hard time fitting in the alpaca chute (I have sheared average size llamas in our alpaca chute & they fit well)
My guidance is to buy the chute for the lama that you have the most of in your herd so it will be made for the largest part of your herd

jay,
finally got around to putting together the chute. only had one goof up
putting it together. diagrams would have been helpful, but we got'er
done. I must say, this is probably the best purchase we have made to
date for our farm. you know the saying, the right tool for the right
job....well this is it! yesterday, we tackled toenails. some of our
critters stepped right in, some you really don't need to restrain. i
used it for both the llamas and alpacas. our biggest llama barely fit,
his butt hung out the back a bit, but we managed. (he's 400+ lbs)
however...when it came to our more challenging alpacas, it was a god
send! we have one goof ball gelding (whom i lovingly call goat boy) who
cushes IMMEDIATELY with any sense of alarm. it was tough trying to
figure out how to keep him up as he would cush before really even
getting inside the chute. the trick was to walk him in, belly strap him
up quickly then restrain his head with the lower head straps only. he
would NOT put his feet down, ending up suspended in space. it was
rather alarming but working quickly got his feet done. instead of
straps, i think we'll need a sling! he's the nicest guy but truly a
door knob. (there's one in every crowd).
thanks again. you have a good product and i have no regrets.

Hey Jay,
I wanted to send a quick note letting you know what lead up to this order...
My husband and I spent 2 hours wrestling and wrangling our alpacas for shots, nails, and skin ointment. I've been bugging my husband for about as long as we've owned our alpacas for a chute. His only participation in the alpacas is when we do our monthly herd health day...because I can't handle them myself. This last herd health day was particularly challenging...needless to say, I'm making this purchase with his blessing and encouragement! :)
I'm really excited to get the chute and am sure we will all be a lot 'safer' (alpacas and owners) for having it.
Hope this note finds you doing well and finding time to enjoy some of the summer!
Take care~
