Presented by Dr. LaRue Johnson & Dr. Murray Fowler  (He wrote THE BOOK on camelid medicine!)
Saturday, October 4 & Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at
Ausable Valley Alpacas Farm
Jay, NY

Discussion will include all aspects of camelid breeding & medicine, and you will receive a comprehensive handout
The seminar fee for the two day Camelid Medicine and Breeding seminar is $399/person.
This should be a very educational, fast paced and interesting weekend! Dr LaRue Johnson and Dr Murray Fowler are giants in the camelid world. I was recently talking with two very prominent & well known camelid vets who commented about Johnson and Fowler: “They are our heroes!”

October is one of the most beautiful months in the Adirondacks with the leaves changing colors. We picked the first weekend in October in the hopes that the fall foliage will be at peak.

In addition to two jam-packed days of education we’ll have a group dinner (dutch treat) for anyone wanting to attend at a very nice local restaurant. This is a great opportunity to network with other breeders and our presenters.

Dr Fowler’s book will be available for purchase and he will autograph copies if desired.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF MURRAY E. FOWLER, DVM

Murray Fowler grew up on a small farm in Utah. A degree in Animal Husbandry at Utah State University preceded his professional DVM degree from Iowa State University in 1955. Three years were spent in a horse practice in Southern California prior to joining the faculty of the Veterinary School at the University of California, Davis in 1958. After 10 years of teaching in the area of large animal medicine and surgery, he was asked to develop a program in Zoological Medicine (captive and free-ranging wild animals), the first of its kind anywhere in the world. When alpacas and llamas became popular in the private sector he was in a position to help with their medical problems.

He is the editor, author or co-author of 22 books, six of which deal with camelids. He has published over 250 professional papers , 95 of which deal with camels, alpacas and llamas.

The second edition of his book on the Medicine and Surgery of South American Camelids is now in print. Eric Hoffman and he published The Alpaca Book for owners and breeders. He and his wife Audrey published a small book on First Aid for Llamas and Alpacas.

After 34 years of service to the University of California he retired, and is now Professor Emeritus of Zoological Medicine. He remains active in consultations with colleagues and continues to participate in camelid conferences and workshops world wide.
