Microchips
Bio-Thermo LifeChips:
Bio-Thermo microchips read the temperature of the animal in which they are implanted!
The Bio-Thermo LifeChips are made by Destron, a leader in RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification). Bio-Thermo LifeChips are very small--about the size of a grain of rice. Each chip is assigned a 15 digit, unique ID code which is then registered in a database such as a livestock registry and stays associated with your animal for its entire life.
A LifeChip is powered by energy in the radio signal from Destron’s Pocket Reader which activates the microchip. And once the signal is received by the chip, a sensor sends back the ID code along with the animal’s temperature. Only Destron Pock-Readers can read animal temperature info from Bio-Thermo LifeChips.
The Benefits:
There are many benefits of the LifeChip with Bio-Thermo Technology. For starters, readings are obtained fast and easily when the handheld reader passes over where the chip is implanted in the animals. You can check temperatures as often as you like with only minimal stress to animals & yourself (compared to rectal readings). From use at shows to checking pregnant females & crias, you’ll love the convenience and speed of the LifeChip and Reader.
Implanting:
Implanting microchips in livestock is becoming the industry standard for Camelids and other livestock industries. And when you do chip your animals, you help to protect them if they are stolen or lost. As a buyer, when an animal has been microchipped, you are sure you’re getting the animal you want.
Each chip comes with a one-time use pre-loaded syringe and is sealed in a sterile package. The package contains stickers showing the 15 digit codes that can be sent in with registrations and added to your files.
Bio-Bond:
Glass capsule type chips can sometimes migrate after implanting & therefore be unavailable for important ID purposes. Destron Fearing microchips are manufactured with a patented Bio-Bond process. The material is bio-compatible with the animal’s tissue which enables the animal’s tissue to connect with the microchip greatly reducing the risk of migration and loss.
Take advantage of Bio-Thermo LifeChip technology for your alpacas, llamas and other light livestock.

SmartChip 15 Digit Microchip
The SmartChips are 15 digit, 134KHz chip just like the Destron chips.
So if your reader read can Destron chips or other chips that use the 134KHZ, 15 digit technology it will read the
SmartChips as well.
We have tested the SmartChips with our readers to be sure.
Pre-loaded one time use syringe
Sealed sterile packaging
Operating frequency: 134.2 KHz
Effective read distance :
Up to 7 cm ± 1 ~ 2 cm , (The read distance depends on portable reader, battery and environment)
Storage temperature: -20C ~ + 70C
SmartChips are ISO 11784/5 compliant
The chip operates at the standard frequency, are readable by all ISO readers.
There are two types of compliant code sequence- HDX and FDX. The SmartChip is FDX coded. |
We are using those new SmartChip microchips and they are working great. The price for the 10 pack saves us some money also since we chip over 100 animals a year. These work just fine with our Destron Universal reader.

Two of my donks just arrived in France, safe and sound, with the digital angel chips from you folks implanted (as they require chips over there) so they get them into other countries safe and sound!!! The chips ability to be accepted by importing countries, was a definite benefit to me. I have 2 going to Germany this year, that will also be sporting your chips!! :)

Tips for use of microchips and readers:
-Always scan the microchips before insertion to be sure it is working.
-The insertion of a microchip is basically a subcutaneous injection…just using a big needle.
-After insertion make sure the microchip is not on the surface of the skin, in the fleece or hair of the animal by brushing or rubbing the area in order to dislodge an errant chip.
-Rescan the chip to be sure it is working in the embedded location.
-Store the barcode stickers that contain the microchip number for future reference. The stickers can be placed on registration paperwork, the tab of a file folders, etc.
-Rescan the chip anytime an ID is needed and before each vet appointment when a CVI (certificate of vet inspection) is planned to be sure the microchips are available so the vet can include the microchip number on the CVI.
Microchips and Shows:
Follow this process to be sure you’re prepared for a show:
Scan the microchip in the animal with the vet present to be sure the microchip number that the vet puts on the CVI matches the chip in the alpaca, llama, mini-horse, etc.
Then as the animal is loaded on the trailer for the show rescan the chip to be sure it can still be found and read.
And bring your scanner to the show to be sure you can scan the chip if there is a question at check in.
This will help insure that your show animal makes it into the show every time.
Top 10 reasons to Choose LifeChips
Original Research
LifeChips are a result of Destron’s original research and are covered by worldwide patents. Destron Technologies control every step of the ISO 9001 certified manufacturing process of the LifeChip and is far from the generic product as seen by other marketers of these products. This also means that the latest technology improvements will be available with LifeChips. No-one knows more about implantable microchip technology!
Anti-Migration Cap
LifeChip is the ONLY microchip with a proven effective anti migration device attached as required in many vet and livestock association microchip protocols. The patented Bio-Bond® anti-migration cap is a porous polypropylene polymer sheath attached to the microchip implant to impede migration. Recent publications in veterinary Journals has documented the effectiveness of
BioBond.
New Sharper Needle
The new LifeChip precision needles are bevel cut to optimize the delivery of the microchip with a minimum of effort and discomfort to the animal. The needle now also carries a silicon coating for a smoother injection. For ease of discard the needle can be detached from the syringe body.
New Sterile Bubble Pack
LifeChip's new packaging ensures that your microchips and implanters arrive in pristine condition. Sterility is guaranteed by Destron's pharmaceutical standard sterility controls. Documented shelf life is 5 years from sterilization.
New Click Safe Syringe
Listen for the Safety-Clic when the syringe plunger is fully depressed to indicate proper implantation. No more user errors with microchips half inserted. A further click will indicate that the needle tip is protected from accidental injury and therefore minimizes safety concerns.
Full Needle Cap
Destron has introduced a secure needle cap to ensure that the LifeChip transponder is held in an optimal position during storage and transport. The new cap also protects needle sharpness assures product sterility.
Barcodes
Eight barcodes securely attached to packaging to eliminate errors caused by loose labels. Use for recording onto animal records, database forms etc.
Ongoing Improvement And Research
Destron Technologies is committed to animal identification and advancing microchip technology to produce product improvements that really matter. An increase in the read range of 50% is the next target. Watch for microchips with greater read distances and bio-sensing in the near future!
Pocket Reader EX Scanners
The POCKET reader set the benchmark for quality and are true MULTIREADERS. They will read all brands of ISO and Non ISO chips that have been sold in North America. The latest readers can read all FDX and HDX cattle and sheep tags and can be programmed to keep up with technology advances.
Selected By The Most Discerning Customers
LifeChip has been selected by the pet owners and livestock breeders around the world including the Australia Stud Book to electronically identify Australian thoroughbred horses. LifeChips are also used in the UK, South Africa and France and many other organizations world wide for this important task. When it comes to horses worth millions there can be no mistakes. It stands to reason to select LifeChip for your livestock or priceless family pets!
